Why Ford left India

WHY CAN’T INDIA FIND FORD KI KUCH FAMILY WALI FEELING?

Why this Family wali Feeling faded?
Ford entered India in the early 1990s, offering great driving dynamics and best-in-class build quality. So why did it fail?

1. Sustained Low Sales & Market Share
Ford always had a low marketing share in India due to India being a price-sensitive market, whereas Ford provided an entry-level luxury feel, which its competitors didn’t and charged a premium, leading to low sales and market share.

2. Massive Accumulated Losses
Ford’s Sanand plant was costly to establish. Ford invested over $1 billion in the Sanand Plant’s setup, due to which it had a lot of accumulated losses, and the plant was always underutilised, due to which Ford faced a lot of operating losses.

3. Intense Competition & Weak Dealer Network
Ford faced Intense competition from the Japanese car manufacturers, and they offered reliability and cheaper parts, a low cost of maintenance with good mileage, as well as a stronger dealer Network. Whereas Ford lacked in all, a bit expensive maintenance, costlier parts, and a smaller dealer network, it all made things tougher for Ford.

4. No New Products in the market
Ford Focused primarily on two products Ford Endeavour and the Ford Ecosport. It didn’t launch any new products since 2016, just some minor facelifts. The company has also struggled to understand the behaviour of Indian customers and has yet to introduce any CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) vehicles for better mileage.

-Ford failed to understand the Indian market, leading to inappropriate product launches. Additionally, the Sanand plant was not a sound investment as it was consistently underutilised.

Many rumours suggest that Ford is returning to India. What do you think “Kya waps aaegi Ford Ki kuch alag se family wali feel?”
